To say it was a beautiful day would not begin to explain it. It was that day when the end of summer intersects perfectly with the start of fall. — Ann Patchett
Here in Montréal, blueberry season signals the approach of the end of summer. Although there are still many more warm weeks ahead, the slightest bit of heed will reveal that all of nature has already begun conspiring to bid farewell to summer. What better way to celebrate than with blueberry ice cream?
Blueberry and Lemon Mascarpone Ice Cream
(fills a 5×9 inches baking pan)
- approximately 200 g blueberries
- 120 g raw sugar
- 400 g mascarpone cheese
- 250 g heavy cream
- 3 tbsp lemon juice
- zest of one lemon (approximately 1 tsp), fine
- In a large bowl, combine cream, blueberries, sugar, cheese, lemon juice and zest and blend using an immersion blender until smooth.
- Pour the mixture into the cylinder of an ice cream maker and churn as per the manufacturer’s instructions. (I churn for 25 minutes.)
- Once the churning is complete, store in a freezer-safe container with an airtight lid.
Oh, that ice-cream looks absolutely divine – a perfect treat for a hot day. So I might have to try your recipe as it’s currently sweltering hot weather here in Australia!
I love your photography too – it’s stunning!
Hope you are enjoying your summer. Thank you so much. xx

Thank you so much.
I LOVE blueberries but really don’t know why I’ve never tried it in ice cream form! It looks amazing Annika!
blueberries always signal the beginning of the end of summer for me too. i think that association comes from the time i spent in alaska, where the berries ripened late summer and the bears would gorge themselves before hibernation. this ice cream looks like something i could gorge myself on before a northern winter!
I imagine these blueberries liken those of the wild blueberries on Québec, they are so sweet and bursting with flavour! I hope you get a chance to make the recipe.
This must be so yummy, love blueberries!😍
It sure was… I need to make some more.
Looks yum. Can’t wait to try.
Thank you Deepti!

So sweet of you to say, thank you!
This is awesome. I am going to try it. Blueberry is my favorite. Thanks for sharing 🙂
I’m so happy to hear that, one of our favs too! Thank you dear.
That’s a great tip with the arrowroot powder. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
It really is and so much better than the host of ingredients you find in commercial ice cream.
Looks super delicious ! It is so nice to make ice cream using fresh fruits at home, as store-bought ice cream is usually added with synthetic flavour & colour.
Yes, so true. Store-bought ice cream has been one of the last processed foods to go from our grocery list and I’m so glad for that! Thank you.
Sounds wonderful Annika
Thank you Myra!
Great recipe! Thank you for sharing! I am sure it is delicious!
