They have arrived. More specifically, they arrived last week. ‘They’ being the first harvest of Québec strawberries. After a long winter of seeing jet-lagged, unseemly large strawberries from California and Mexico at the grocery store, these homegrown ones are met with great anticipation and welcome. By far, they are the sweetest strawberries that I have ever eaten. The first week was spent gorging on just plain strawberries right out of the carton.
The next best thing to eating strawberries on their own is eating them with cream. This is a simple recipe from one on one of my favourite food blogs, My Nordic Kitchen.
Strawberry and Cream (from My Nordic Kitchen)
Wash and chop strawberries.
Add milk and cream (I added equal parts of each).
Sprinkle some sugar.
Enjoy!
This is a great recipe! Being from Minnesota, I have a ton of Scandinavian friends, I will have to make this for them!
Beware, this little treat is kinda addictive!!
It looks super addictive!
Besides in shortcakes, this is how we always ate our strawberries as desert when I was a kid ! Thick cream, and brown sugar. Still a treat! And in winter, we’d replace strawberries by bananas.
That is so interesting! We ate this all summer and are missing it now so thanks for the idea of using bananas… we will have to try it!
Oh this looks amazing!
Thank you!
You’re welcome Annika!
